David Goyer announced that he’s off the movie adaptation of the Flash late last week. But as we’ve seen with numerous other spandex clad properties at WB they replaced him in a …. well a Flash!

An article in The Hollywood Reporter names Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Cheaper by the Dozen) as the new director for the project at Warner Bros.

The film version of DC Comics’ speedster will be produced by Charles Roven and Alex Gartner, with Levy most likely joining the two.

From THR:

Sources said that Levy, who before “Museum” had been known for such comedies as “Cheaper by the Dozen” and “The Pink Panther,” has no intention of making “Flash” a comedy but is aiming for a lighter movie than previous Warners comic book adaptations, such as “Batman Begins” and “Superman Returns.” Goyer’s “Flash” also had been dark-themed.

Levy will oversee the writing of the new draft, and it is believed elements of Goyer’s script will be used in the development process.

From TAB (The Amazing Brian-Man):
Why? Oh why in the mother lovin’ universe do they get these family faire movie directors to helm some of comicdoms most iconic characters? First it was Mark Stephen Johnson (Grumpy Old Men, Simon Birch) on Daredevil and now he’s done Ghost Rider. Both a couple of twisted bagage carrying SOB’s in the pages of Marvel Knights. But on the big screen they come across as tounge in cheek and campy as the ‘70s Batman TV show.
Now we’re gonna have to watch the Scarlet Speedster be subjected to the same inane treatment. Granted The Flash is a bit more light hearted than the likes of a Batman or a Ghost Rider should be. However in the wrong hands it could turn out down right ridiculous. I can only hope that we end up with somebody behind the mask that can pull off the charm and heroism of the Flash despite whoever is in the driver’s seat. Just a fair warning to the film makers, if you cast Owen Wilson or Ben Stiller in the role, both whom I admire greatly but are NOT right for this role, I will be the fastest man alive…. Running to get my money back before the Main Title card hits the screen.
Halelujah! Holy Hannah! Where’s theTylenol?

Kudos on the pun. I’m usually easily impressed by things like that :P

Not meaning to depress you more, but not only is Mark Stephen Johnson behind Daredevil and Ghost Rider, but he’s also bring Preacher to the small screen.

I don’t know. I could go either way on this. On one hand DAREDEVIL, in either incarnation, was a pretty bad flick. Haven’t see GHOST RIDER yet but the term steaming pile keeps coming up.

A more lighthearted Flash could work. Or it could fail miserably. I’m not against taking a more "family friendly" approach in principle, but usually those are the movies I want to set on fire.

Sigh. Why can’t Warner Bros. get their act together? They’re sitting on a gold mine of properties and are hesitant to do anything with them.

Nice NATIONAL LAMPOON CHRISTMAS VACATION reference, though.
